It’s one of my favorite times of the year. Unlike some of my friends, it’s definitely not because of hoodie weather and pumpkin spice…. But because calving season has begun! We have a set of heifers calving with AI sired calves. I caught a cute picture of a baby heifer out of W/C Banchor 46D and a first-time calving heifer a grand-daughter of Mr HOC Broker. This baby heifer is the fifth generation from my first herd of registered cattle. It’s so neat to look at the babies hitting the ground and think about their long lineage and know that I chose that lineage to get to where I am today. They are good mommas; they have depth, length, bone and longevity!
Speaking of these traits…. If you’re looking for a SimAngus bull, we’ve consigned two 2 year-old bulls to the Callaway Special Cow Sale in Kingdom City, Missouri on Thursday, October 6, starting at 6:00 p.m. It can be viewed on DV Auction https://www.dvauction.com/events/145172 You can also register to bid through DV Auction if you don’t already have an account. These bulls will be grandsons of CCR Cowboy Cut 5048Z. There is a baldy bull who is also a grandson of Mr HOC Broker on the dam’s side. We also have a solid black bull that is a grandson of EXAR Upshot 0562B on his dam’s side. These bulls are mainly grass developed; they never ran to a creep feeder! Take one of these boys home, turn him in with a set of cows and he will look the same next week. I am looking forward to getting these boys out and in front of a crowd! To see more information about these boys their registration papers, semen tests, and trich test results, you can click here https://slidingstoptradingpost.com/wordpress/livestock/ .
When I haven’t been out with the livestock, I’ve been in my workroom busily making field trial blankets. I placed my first big ad yesterday in the The Hunter’s Horn magazine. https://www.huntinghoundsmen.com/product-page/the-hunters-horn-magazine I’m looking forward to seeing the ad in print starting with the November issue. It feels like it has taken a life-time to get to this point, but it is a good feeling to be pushing forward with my dream!
I would love to know if any of my readers have quit full-time jobs to start a business from home. If so, what is it you are doing now? Maybe you’re farming, writing a novel, running a catering business, whatever it is, I would love to hear about it! Feel free to share a link! Also, what were some of your trials and tribulations of getting started? I would love for you to comment on my blog!
Until next time,
Happy Trails
